Map of the Stars, Northern and Southern Hemisphere. The constellations shown are those defined in the first quarter of the nineteenth century, including some of those now no longer used.

They are defined by their name in Latin and recognisable by a hatch that unites not the brightest stars but the perimeter ones. No mention of the drawing of the mythological characters.

Map of the theories of the Solar System by Ptolemy, Tycho Brahe, Copernicus and Descartes.

The illustration contain four models, each presenting the Sun, the planets and the moon.

Outside the spheres, the planets of Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Venus, the Moon, and the Sun are also detailed.

Ptolemic and the Tychonic System consist of a stationery Earth, while the Copernican and Cartesian System place the Sun in the center.

This map was originally published in the Desnons’ 1786 Atlas General Methodique et Elementarie, Pour l’Etude de la Geographie et de l’histoire Moderne.
