A fine reproduction map of SYRIA.

A highly decorative and detailed mid-19th-century map of ‘Syria’ (Syria, Lebanon, Palestine/Israel, and Gaza) which was drawn and engraved by J. Rapkin (vignettes by H. Warren & J. Rogers) and published in John Tallis’s Illustrated Atlas And Modern History of the World. (London & New York: John Tallis & co, c.1851).

It covers from the Gulf of Iskenderun to the Dead Sea and includes modern-day Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and parts of Jordan and Turkey. The map includes beautiful illustrations by H. Warren of baggage camels, Jerusalem, and Arabs. This time in history marks the decline of the Ottoman Empire, which Syria was part of, but largely ignored by world affairs.
